    SBISD Initial Login Protocol

    The first time students login to a SBISD computer:
    User name: 
    User name:  SMITHJOE000  (first 5 of last name + first 3 of first + 3 numbers usually 000) – you can find their user name in Skyward
    Password:    sbLUNCH#

    Also – this password change must happen on an ACTUAL computer (PC) the first time.

    Once the password is changed then the WIFI (Guest) “sbisd-guest” AND Skyward can be accessed using the students’ NEW password. Students should always use the “guest” wifi on their home devices (iPhones, etc)

    Sign Up for Text Reminders & Updates

    Please sign up for text reminders and updates.  This is a one-way texting/messaging program.  You can only receive and not respond.  To sign up, please text the number and message below.  It will prompt you to respond with your name. This is only for identification purposes, and it will only need to be done once.  It is that easy!

    I use a program called REMIND (remind.com).  It is a safe and efficient way to communicate with parents and students.  I never see your phone number and you never see mine. It all goes through this program and appears like a text message on your phone.

    Welcome 8th Graders!!! -- Syllabus

    8th Grade English Language Arts

    In each 9 week grading period, the students will focus on various pieces of Literature, different modes of Writing, elements of Grammar/Mechanics/Usage and specific Vocabulary development.

    DAILY REMINDERS

    • Record all homework assignments from the board/blog each day in your agenda book
    • Keep all papers for the semester. 
    • Write in black/blue ink or pencil only (nothing else will be accepted)
    • Ask for work you have missed due to an absence and look at my blog and calendar on my website!
    • Type all final drafts or writing projects.  Use 12-pt Times New Roman font and double-space.
    • TEST DAYS:  Tuesday and Thursday

    TUTORIALS

    • If you need additional help, please see me and we will schedule a tutorial time.

    GRADING EXPECTATIONS:
           Be prepared for class, and turn in your best work on the due date. 
           If an assignment is due or scheduled and you are absent the day before it is due, you are STILL responsible for turning that assignment in on time.
           Participate in class. 

    DAILY:  20%   Class work, Assigned homework, Class discussions, Group and class participation

    QUIZZES:  30% Examples:  Reading and pop quizzes, Presentations, Vocabulary quizzes (after each unit, Short writing assignments, Timed -writing assignments, In-class/short term projects

    TESTS:  50% Examples:  Novel unit tests, Final drafts, Major essays, Major projects, Outside reading projects, Vocabulary/Roots Tests

    o   1 day late: 0
